Upcoming Workshops

Ninth Annual International Encaustic Conference

Friday June 5

Demo: Basics: Fusing with Torches, Irons, Heat Guns
Lynette Haggard
If you are new to encaustic, this is an essential demonstration, as Lynette will present the three tool types and show which is best used for the specific task at hand. After going over general safety tips and practices with these tools, she’ll demonstrate fusing with each, contrasting some of the differences between tools.  Her demo will include using the iron for smooth surface, and the tacking iron for smaller collage work;  the range and shape of various flames used in “heat brushes”; and working toward a smooth surface with a heat gun.  Even if you’re not a beginner, this is a good opportunity to revisit your fusing options—and to get over your fear of the torch.

Building Surface and Texture
Location: R&F Handmade Paints (NY)
Wednesday, August 12, 2015 - Friday, August 14, 2015
Time: 9 AM - 5 PM
Price: $ 575.00

In this three day workshop, Lynette Haggard will take participants into the next dimension with their work oriented to working with a panel. She will introduce a variety of methods for building surface and incorporating texture to enhance dimensionality through approachable and accessible materials. Techniques explored will include applying corrugated cardboard, balsa strips and joint compound as a means of building the stability and initial surface of the panel. Next we will incorporate soft materials such as fabric and paper will add pattern and texture to the compositions. You will learn two techniques of accretion, with paint and with textured paper w/ acrylic gel. We continue to develop the panels by shifting the focusing to pattern and design derived from our enhanced surfaces by scoring and using stencils.
