It took me over an hour to drive a fairly short distance tonight after work, to do a demo in Melrose. I left Boston and went up Rte. 93, ended up at the Beebe Estate and met up with Debra Corbett, who invited me to do this event.
The demo was fun. The audience was engaged. Probably about 25 attendees. I was happy to be there, and enjoyed showing them various techniques in using encaustic paint.
For starters, Deb had a copy of the Artist's Magazine, with the article about my friend, Kim Bernard.
I did a demo for about an hour and 1/2. I discussed materials, how to prepare a substrate, making your own encaustic medium, using tools for encising, fusing, and using R&F oilstick for special effects.
I also mentioned the benefits of attending the annual encaustic conference at Montserrat College of Art. Whew! What a day.
Thanks to all who attended.
